Tvåskälmar i paradiset (Les Gueux au Paradis), by G.M. Martens and André Obey, premiered in Paris at the Studio des Champs-Elysées in January 1945 when the Germans had left the city. It was a huge success with its repeated references to the Germans in the roles of the devils and Hitler as the Duke of Alba (the Spanish invader of the Low Countries in the 16th century). The writing is very humorous and Parisians clearly needed a good laugh at the time. It was directed by Danish guest director, Sven Gade, and premiered in April 1947. |
